Hyderabad: The Covid-19 pandemic continues to cast a shadow over the conduct of the Common Entrance Tests (CETs) for admissions into various professional courses in the State. The Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET) 2021 which is to be conducted from July 5 to 9 is now being planned after July 25.

This is being considered by the Telangana State Council of Higher Education as the Covid-19 cases are yet to subside in the State, and with the cancellation of second-year intermediate public exams on Wednesday, there is not enough time for students to prepare for the entrance test. Every year, the TS EAMCET is conducted after five weeks to six weeks into the completion of the intermediate public exams.

Moreover, fresh dates for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main-April and May sessions and JEE Advanced, which were earlier postponed, are yet to be announced by the Central government. Even the exam date of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) has not been notified so far.

As most students from the State appear for both national and State-level entrance tests, the officials concerned are ensuring that these entrance tests dates do not clash. Depending on the availability of slots with the service provider, the authorities are planning to schedule the TS EAMCET after July 25, and it will be completed by the first week of August. Following this, the admission process for various engineering courses is likely to commence after August 15 with classes likely from September 1.

Plans are also afoot to re-schedule exam dates of Post Graduate Engineering Common Entrance Test scheduled to be held from June 19 to 22, Engineering Common Entrance Test on July 1, Integrated Common Entrance Test on August 19 and 20, Law Common Entrance Test and PG Law Common Entrance Test on August 23, and Education Common Entrance Test on August 24 and 25.

“Every year, TS EAMCET is conducted after five weeks to six weeks into the completion of the intermediate public exams. Now, there isn’t enough time for students to prepare for the entrance test. So, we are planning to re-schedule the TS EAMCET to a later date after July 25. Also, we will revise other CETs dates as various degree final year exams are not yet conducted. The entrance tests will be held after approval from the State government,” an official said.
