Hyderabad: In a significant political development, the Jana Sena Party (JSP), founded by actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan, announced its support to the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Jubilee Hills by-election.
JSP is part of the NDA alliance, which is in power in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Since the Election Commission of India issued the by-election notification, there had been speculation in political circles that both the Telugu Desam Party and the JSP would campaign for the BJP in the constituency.
The speculation gained credence on Tuesday when JSP Telangana unit president Shankar Goud met BJP Telangana unit president N Ramchander Rao and union Minister G Kishan Reddy at Sagar Society. After the meeting, Shankar Goud declared unconditional support for the BJP in the by-election.
Leaders of both parties are learnt to have discussed key issues and are expected to hold a press conference on Wednesday to outline their future course of action.
Apart from BJP candidate Lankala Deepak Reddy, several senior BJP leaders also attended the meeting.
Party leaders said the meeting was held on the instructions of JSP chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. There are expectations that he may join the campaign for the BJP candidate in Jubilee Hills.
Political circles are also buzzing over whether TDP leaders, particularly IT Minister Nara Lokesh, will join the campaign. However, no official communication has been issued by the TDP yet.
