Khammam: Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt informed that the Preventive Detention (PD) Act has been invoked against an accused involved in PDS rice black marketing.

In a statement here on Monday, he stated that four cases were registered at Tallada police station against accused Mirza Jilani Baig of Mittapalli village in Tallada mandal for illegally purchasing subsidised PDS rice from ration dealers, their agents, transporting it across State borders and selling it in the black market.

Despite previous cases being registered against him and notices being issued under Section 35(3) of the BNSS, there was no change in his behaviour. As a result, the PD Act was invoked and the accused was taken into custody by Wyra CI Venkata Prasad and Tallada SI Venkata Krishna before being shifted to Chanchalguda Central Jail in Hyderabad.

CP Sunil Dutt also informed that the PD Act was invoked against another accused, Kaja Rama Rao alias Jayanthi Rama Rao, who was illegally purchasing and storing PDS rice, transporting it across State borders and selling it in the black market.

Rama Rao of Veerulapadu mandal in NTR district, Andhra Pradesh, was illegally procuring PDS rice by misusing beneficiaries’ biometric fingerprints through ration dealers and their agents.

Five cases were registered against him between April 28 and May 26, 2026, at Kalloor, Tallada, Yerrupalem and Chandrugonda police stations in Khammam and Kothagudem districts. He was also booked in two cases in 2024, but he continued his illicit activities unabated.

Sathupalli rural CI Muthulingam invoked the PD Act, took Rama Rao into custody recently and shifted him to Chanchalguda Central Jail in Hyderabad, the CP added.
