Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force (North) caught three members of a gang involved in smuggling of PDS rice from the city to Karnataka. The police seized 165 quintals of rice and three goods carrier auto-rickshaws. Three others involved in the case are absconding.
The arrested persons were Mohd Qadir (33), Mohd Sami (27) and Mohd Qadir (27), all residents of Musheerabad. Three others, the prime suspect Mohammed Dawood (25), a rowdy sheeter from Musheerabad, Mohd Akbar of Bowenpally and Karim of Rasoolpura, were absconding.
According to the police, Dawood, who was involved in one murder case and other property offences, along with others was illegally procuring rice meant for distribution under the Public Distribution System. “He was supplying it to Karnataka with the help of his associates at higher rates,” said P Radha Kishan Rao, DCP, Task Force.
Following a tip-off, the Task Force raided three places at Musheerabad, Begumpet and Alwal and caught them. Efforts are on to nab the absconding suspects.
