Peddapalli: A woman who refused to live with her husband over a domestic dispute, was beaten to death by the man, even as horrified villagers watched in Uppatla village of Manthani mandal on Saturday afternoon, reports said.
The woman, Renuka (35) quarrelled with her husband Kasipeta Banaiah and left him over a year ago and was living separately with her teenaged daughter. Banaiah, it was said, had another wife Suguna. Banaiah and Renuka attended a village panchayat called by the elders in the village on Saturday. The elders asked her whether she would go back to her husband. Renuka made her unwillingness known and went away from the Panchayat.
An irate Banaiah was said to have followed her into the village and hit her with a boulder, in the full view of villagers. She died on the spot. Police rushed the spot and began investigation after registering a case. Her body was shifted to hospital for postmortem.
