Phule fought for gender equality: Harish Rao

Siddipet: Finance Minister T Harish Rao recalled the contribution of Jyotirao Phule as an educationist and social activist throughout his life.
Speaking after paying floral tributes to the statue of Joytirao Phule on his 194th birth anniversary in Siddipet on Sunday, he said Phule played a vital role in eradicating various social evils during his time.. “He always fought for gender equality,” he said.
Underlining the importance of sending the girls to school, Rao has said that Phule had guided his wife Savithri to pursue her studies even after their marriage who in turn had become great social activists then. He has called upon all the backward classes to pursue studies to achieve something big in his life which he termed as the only way to pay tributes to Phule.
Later, Collector Siddipet P Venkatrami Reddy, other elected representatives and officials have paid tributes to Phule on his birth anniversary.
