The world was looking in stunned silence when the Taliban strategically took over Afghanistan. As the Taliban landed in the nation, the first thought for many Afghans and other nationals was to evacuate at the earliest – leaving several thousands of people huddle at the airport.
As many countries send forces to evacuate their citizens, India also sent a special flight – C 17 Globemasters – operated by the Indian Air Force (IAF), which reportedly landed in Kabul, Afghanistan, on August 16 to bring back stranded Indians, including the Embassy staff. India had kept C 17 Globemasters on standby for evacuation missions. And one of them took off from the Hindan Air Force Station on the outskirts of Delhi to reach Afghanistan.
However, viral pictures showing people jam-packed inside an aircraft claiming to be Indians airlifted from Afghanistan, doing rounds in social media now, seems to be old. The picture is actually said to be from 2013 and not the latest take-off from Afghanistan.
As per ‘Alt News’ fact check, the picture dates back to November 17, 2013. “More than 670 Tacloban residents sit onboard a C-17 Globemaster III before being evacuated to Manila following Super Typhoon Haiyan, which hit the Philippines,” said the description of the image.

Amid the chaos in Afghanistan, India on Tuesday safely evacuated over 150 citizens, including diplomats, from Afghanistan. On Sunday, Indians evacuated around 180 Indians on the C-17 Globemaster aircraft of the IAF.
