Hyderabad: Google has unveiled the Pixel Watch 4, its most significant update yet, featuring a redesigned look, advanced health and fitness capabilities, and expanded AI functionality. The smartwatch introduces several industry firsts, including a domed Actua 360 display, standalone satellite communication support, and on-wrist access to Gemini AI.
Redesigned for performance and style
Pixel Watch 4 retains its iconic circular shape but boasts a new domed Actua 360 display with 16% smaller bezels and a 10% larger active area. The 3000-nit screen is 50% brighter than its predecessor, ensuring visibility even in direct sunlight. Material 3 Expressive enables more dynamic, personalized UIs, richer colors, and engaging clock faces. A stronger custom haptic engine and upgraded speaker make interactions with Gemini AI smoother and more responsive.
Battery and computing power
The smartwatch offers up to 40 hours of battery life on the 45mm model and 30 hours on the 41mm, extendable with Battery Saver mode to three and two days respectively. The Quick Charge Dock now powers the device from 0–50% in just 15 minutes. Pixel Watch 4 features the Snapdragon® W5 Gen 2 Wearable Platform and a next-generation ML-powered co-processor that’s 25% faster at half the power. The watch is water-resistant up to 50 meters and comes with a replaceable battery and display for the first time.
Satellite communications and AI integration
The LTE-enabled Pixel Watch 4 is the first smartwatch to offer standalone emergency satellite communication, connecting users to emergency services even off the grid. Gemini AI is accessible with a simple raise of the wrist, providing hands-free assistance for daily tasks and context-aware Smart Replies.
Advanced health and fitness features
Pixel Watch 4 introduces comprehensive health and fitness tracking, including:
- Smarter sleep tracking: 18% more accurate sleep cycle classification using advanced ML models.
- Skin temperature sensing: Detects deviations from personal ranges to monitor wellbeing.
- Enhanced route tracking: Dual-frequency GPS for precise navigation in urban or wooded environments.
- Real-time cycling metrics: Stream metrics directly to the Fitbit app as a heads-up display.
- 50+ exercise modes: Including pickleball and basketball, with automatic activity detection and recaps.
Additionally, a preview of a new AI-powered personal health coach, integrated with Gemini, will launch in October for Pixel Watch and Fitbit users in the U.S., providing tailored fitness and sleep guidance.
