Entry ticket prices and service charges at Hyderabad’s Nehru Zoological Park have been revised for the second time in 15 months, with new rates effective from August 1. Foreigners will now pay Rs 1,000 for entry, while charges for toy train rides, cameras, and battery-operated vehicles have also been revised.

Hyderabad: In over a 15-month gap, entry tickets to the Nehru Zoological Park here have been hiked twice. As per the enhanced rates, adults and children will have to shell out Rs 120 and Rs 60 respectively as against Rs.100 and Rs. 50 for the entry. For the first time, separate pricing has been introduced for foreigners for all services, with an entry ticket fixed at Rs. 1,000.

The new rates will come into force from August 1. The decision to increase the rates was taken during the 15th governing body of Zoos and Parks Authority of Telangana (ZAPAT) meeting.

“The zoo is allowed to hike prices by 10 percent every year. Accordingly, ZAPAT took the decision to increase the prices,” officials said.

Further, toy train rides will now cost Rs 90 for adults and Rs 45 for children as against Rs 80 and Rs 40 in the past. In addition, taking photos of the animals has also become costly as still camera usage charges have gone up from Rs 150 to Rs 500. However, the video camera charges have been reduced from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 500. while movie camera user charges remain the same at Rs.10,000. The user charges for camera with lens and tripod setup have been fixed at Rs. 700.

The authorities have also enhanced the charges of battery operating vehicles, fixing Rs 135 and Rs 75 charges for adult and child respectively as against Rs 120 and Rs 70. The charges for 11-seater battery-operated (BOV) vehicles have been revised from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 3,300, while hiring a 14 seat BOV will now cost Rs. 4,400 as against Rs. 4,000 in the past.

Meanwhile, Dr. MA Hakeem, Dy. Director (Veterinary), Nehru Zoological Park, superannuated during a ceremony organised in the zoo premises on Thursday.

Telangana Zoo Parks director Dr. Sunil S Hiremath said Dr. Hakeem’s tenure is long-standing in the zoo. The Forest department absorbed him from the Animal Husbandry department during the year 2011. Later, he was promoted as Deputy Director in 2018.

Zoo curator J Vasantha said during Dr. Hakeem’s tenure the most of the animal exchange programmes have been successfully conducted and several wild animals and endangered animals were bred in the zoo. Hakeem thanked the forest department officials in particular the Zoo management for giving an opportunity to work in the zoo for a long period.
