The Telangana State Leather Industries Promotion Corporation (TSLIPC) under MSME Cluster Development programme initiated measures for setting up a cluster. The plan to set up a leather cluster in Armoor has been pending for the past two decades. Industries Minister KT Rama Rao is now focusing on the project, besides expediting measures, a senior official from TSIIC said.
The project, spread over 28 acres, was proposed at a cost of Rs.10 crore and State government has already sanctioned Rs.2.61 crore. The Central government too released Rs two crore towards the project.
Apart from provision of drainage, power supply, common facility centre, plans are afoot to set up raw materials processing unit and skill development centre at the cluster.
About 150 plots are being developed and this would facilitate setting up of as many units. It would provide direct employment to 1000 persons and indirect employment to 500 persons. In addition to these plans, TSLIPC was also seeking technical, marketing and designing assistance from different agencies.
