An Inter-School Online Chess Tournament was conducted on December 12 at Pallavi Model School Bowenpally. A whopping number of 370 students from nearly 90 schools spread across the twin cities participated in the event under 6 different categories.
Principal Shailaja Reddy presented the welcome address and flagged off the first event organized by the school as part of its Fit India School Week programme. The chief guest of the event was Grandmaster Harsha Bharathakoti, who encouraged the participants to enjoy the game rather than getting stressed thinking of the outcome.
The personal experiences shared by him truly motivated the chess enthusiasts. Chairman of the school M Komaraiah, encouraged students to play chess as it helps in honing one’s analytical skills as well as acts as a stress buster during these stressful pandemic times.
The tournament was conducted online through the LICHESS website and the winners will be declared three days later after all the matches are scrutinised in detail by the moderators.
The school said that the overwhelming response to the event proves without a doubt that it rightly blends both academics and co-curricular activities which is the need of the hour. The school asked the students to keep this in mind that –when you play a game you never lose – you either win or learn.
