Class IX students of Pallavi Model School, Bowenpally presented a virtual assembly on the “National Pollution Control Day” on December 2. The day is observed to pay homage to the citizens who lost their lives during the Bhopal gas tragedy in 1984 caused due to human negligence with the leakage of the poisonous gas, Methyl Isocyanide from the pesticide manufacturing plant of Union Carbide.
The tragic incident immediately killed 4,000 citizens and was directly responsible for thousands of deaths over the next several years. It had also severely affected several generations of children who were born after the tragedy with critical ailments.The assembly highlighted the following three main objectives of the “National Pollution Control Day”
First to create awareness about the alarming increase in all forms of pollution, namely – air, water, soil and noise pollution. Second, to educate students on the causes of industrial disasters and pollution and also the means to control them. Third, to make students aware of the pollution control laws as laid down by the National Pollution Control Board (NPCB) of India.
The assembly concluded on a positive note with the students taking a pledge to save their environment from pollution and to do their bit to help create a clean and healthy environment.
