Medak: Bringing smiles back to ayacut farmers, the Pocharam dam began overflowing as the project was receiving over 6,000 cusecs on Tuesday morning.

The project, which has a storage capacity of 1.8 TMCft, is now filled to the brim. The inflows and outflows at the project were recorded at 6,690 cusecs at 12 noon. The project, built across Aleru Vagu on the borders of Kamareddy and Medak districts, started receiving inflows overnight due to heavy rains in Kamareddy and Medak districts.

The medium irrigation project was built between 1915 and 1922 by the Nizam. Pocharam dam has nearly 10,000 acres of ayacut in Kamareddy and Medak districts. The project was in the news last year after it received one of the worst floods in its more than 100-year history.

The project suffered partial damage in August 2025 as the inflows surged to 1.80 lakh cusecs. The project started receiving visitors immediately after the news broke.
