Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao reiterated that the State government was committed to resolve the Podu lands issue on a permanent basis. Accordingly, the government will invite claims from tribal farmers after Dasara.
Responding to the requests from the Opposition parties in the Assembly on Tuesday, he stated that of about six lakh acres of forest lands occupied by the tribals for Podu cultivation, the State government can issue necessary pattas for about five lakh acres within its purview. However, it has to take up with the Union government, for resolving the issues pertaining to the remaining one lakh acre.
“But once the pattas are issued, all the legislators must ensure that no further destruction of forests is allowed. Stringent action will be initiated against those who damage the forest. Forest Protection Committees will be formed involving the villagers and they will be responsible for protecting the forests,” he said.
