The long-standing Podu land issue has resurfaced in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district with tribals and forest officials once again confronting each other over cultivation rights. Forest authorities cite wildlife conservation concerns, while villagers fear losing their livelihoods and traditional cultivation lands.

Endowments Minister Konda Surekha assured tribal communities that the government is committed to resolving challenges related to podu cultivation and forest lands. Speaking at a Praja Darbar during the Nagoba Jatara in Keslapur, she emphasised the government’s determination to address tribal concerns.

A CPI (ML) Massline delegation led by former MLA Gummadi Narsaiah met Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to present a memorandum listing 27 public concerns requiring government attention. The women complained that the forest officials tore their clothes; warned them that they would be evicted from the village and their houses demolished with bulldozers.

During sensitive situations, do not subject the farmers cultivating podu lands to any inconvenience and face any disciplinary actions, she told officials during the meeting.
