Polala festival celebrated with decorated bullocks across Adilabad

Farmers across the erstwhile Adilabad district celebrated Polala festival by washing, decorating and worshipping bullocks. They offered naivedyam to the animals, acknowledged their contribution to agriculture and gave them a day’s rest, while processions and cultural programmes added to festivities

Adilabad: Farmers celebrated the annual Polala festival, a thanksgiving event dedicated to farm animals for their toil in agriculture on a colorful note across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Thursday.

The farmers began the day by washing bullocks in nearby irrigation tanks and ponds in the morning before adoring them with joon (cloth outfit), paints and flowers. The decorated animals were then taken in processions to local temples where they thanked the cattle for their vital role in farming.

The farmers presented Naivedyam prepared with rice, jaggery and milk to the animals as a token of gratitude. They revered the bovines, known as a vehicle of Lord Shiva and acknowledged them for their outstanding cooperation to farming. The women worshipped the animals with harati. The farm animals were given rest and were not used in agriculture activities.

The countryside came alive with vibrant processions and exhibitions of decorated bullocks. Local public representatives joined the celebrations extending greetings to farmers. Cultural programmes were conducted to mark the occasion in rural parts of Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts, adding to the festive spirit.
