Police arrests two Congress leaders for assaulting an army jawan
Following the complaint by the accused, Ummineni Ramesh of Govindapuram (L) village and Lagadapati Sai of Chintakani were arrested; booked under SC/ST (Atrocities Prevention) Act
Khammam: With dalit organisations demanding the immediate arrest of two Congress leaders for allegedly assaulting a dalit army jawan, Chintakani police have arrested the accused involved in the case.
Wyra ACP, MA Rahaman in a statement on Friday said that the accused who attacked the jawan Budala Manoj of Bonakal have been arrested and were being interrogated.
Following the complaint by the accused, Ummineni Ramesh of Govindapuram (L) village and Lagadapati Sai of Chintakani were arrested; booked under SC/ST (Atrocities Prevention) Act.
The jawan alleged that the duo attacked him in Chintakani police station on February 11, on which he visited the police station as part of the investigation into the case related to a clash that took place at a petrol bunk at Nagulavancha.
The ACP said that the investigation into the matter would be carried out in an impartial manner without any scope for any allegations. The ACP warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone who takes the law into their own hands and engages in such illegal acts.
It might be noted that dalit organisations like KVPS submitted a petition on Thursday to additional DCP to take strict action against the accused, who were said to be followers of Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka. KVPS leader N Manohar alleged that the accused Ramesh threatened the youths involved in the clash at petrol bunk to give a statement to police in his favour.
In a complaint to the Commissioner of Police, the jawan Manoj also said that Ramesh with the help of some rowdy elements threatened the youths on Thursday and recorded a video statement on his mobile phone stating that he had not made casteist remarks against Manoj.
