Karimnagar: Mild tension prevailed in Karimnagar town on Thursday when Congress activists attempted to lay siege to the office of the BJP MP as part of a nationwide agitation.
The protest was organised against what the Congress termed harassment of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi by the Union government in connection with the National Herald case. As part of the agitation, local Congress leaders and cadres moved towards the BJP MP’s office in the town.

Police stopped the Congress workers midway and prevented them from proceeding further. This led to a brief jostle between the police personnel and the ruling party activists, following which the protesters were taken to a police station.
Meanwhile, Choppadandi MLA and District Congress Committee president Medipally Satyam was placed under house arrest to prevent him from participating in the proposed siege of the MP’s office.
When the DCC president attempted to come out of his residence by jumping over the gate, the police intervened and foiled the attempt.
