Police probe cattle smuggling angle after Hayathnagar accident
A van carrying 12 animals overturned in Hayathnagar, injuring three livestock and raising suspicions of illegal cattle transportation. The driver fled, and police launched a search while shifting the rescued animals to a shelter for treatment.
Van overturns in Hayathnagar, illegal cattle transport suspected
HYDERABAD: A suspected case of illegal cattle transportation came to light after a van carrying livestock overturned in Hayathnagar on the city outskirts late Tuesday night.
According to police, the accident occurred near the Hayathnagar police station U-turn when the speeding vehicle lost control and overturned by the roadside. Locals who rushed to the spot found several animals trapped inside the van and alerted the authorities.
The vehicle was reportedly transporting 12 animals, including eight bulls and four cows. In the mishap, two bulls and one cow were injured.
With the help of local residents, police rescued the animals and shifted them to a cow shelter in Abdullapurmet, where they are being treated. The remaining livestock were reported to be safe.
The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, raising suspicions of illegal transportation.
Police have launched a search to trace the absconding driver and are investigating the network behind the suspected illegal cattle movement.
