Sangareddy: In a dramatic chase, Vatpally police pursued a gang that allegedly kidnapped a woman and rescued her near Pulkal after two hours of efforts.

According to Vatpally Sub-Inspector Lav Kumar, the gang comprising Srikanth, his elder brother Jagadish, and their friend Lakshman kidnapped Srikanth’s maternal cousin, Rupa, a resident of Darakastu Pally, in an attempt to force her into marriage.

Srikanth had reportedly been interested in marrying Rupa since childhood, but her parents had arranged her marriage with another person from their community.

While Rupa was travelling towards her house on a two-wheeler along with her younger brother, the accused intercepted the vehicle, forcibly pushed her into their car, and fled the scene.

Following a complaint, Vatpally police launched a search operation in coordination with neighbouring police stations. After tracking the vehicle, the police intercepted the accused near Pulkal following a chase and rescued the victim.

Speaking after the rescue and arrest, Lav Kumar said the accused had threatened to kill Rupa if she married anyone else. He said Srikanth had slapped her with his footwear and threatened to strangle her.

The accused also made a video call to the man with whom her marriage was fixed and threatened him. Srikanth further warned that he would abduct her even after her marriage.

Police registered a case and initiated further investigation.
