Hyderabad: After the Parliament elections were conducted in June this year, political parties will be getting into poll mode again with panchayat and urban local body polls, besides council elections slated in the new Year.
After a span of about eight months, the political parties would be locking horns with each other to prove a point after the outcome of the Parliament elections. In all probability, the panchayat elections are likely to be held in February 2025. Around the same time, notification for elections to the Nalgonda, Khammam and Warangal Teachers Constituency and Karimnagar Graduates and Teachers constituencies is also expected.
The entire exercise of conducting the Teachers and Graduates constituency polls and declaring results is expected to be completed by the last week of March. It is still unclear as to whether panchayat elections would be held before these elections or after them.
Anticipating the notifications, political parties are gearing up to sweat it out for the elections during the February –March- April season. Further, the term of municipalities ends in January 2025, save for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) term, which ends later in the year.
With a hectic election schedule slated for early next year, political parties are already bracing up their cadre for the slugfest. Both the Congress and main opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) have organized a few meetings involving senior leaders. After the BRS held a meeting last month, the Congress party held its Greater Hyderabad meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday. The BJP also held a few meetings with its cadre last month.
Apart from the measures to be taken to corner each other and expose failures, parties are guiding cadres on different aspects to win the elections and people’s confidence.
The Congress, with an eye on these elections, is preparing ground to launch new schemes. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has already announced that the State government would offer financial assistance of Rs.12,000 per year to landless labourers in two installments beginning from December 28. This apart, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had declared that the long-pending assistance under Rythu Bharosa to farmers would be extended after Sankranti.
On the other hand, the BRS is gearing up to expose the Congress government’s failures in implementation of crop loan waiver, procurement, and fulfilling the promises made to people, especially farmers.
