Hyderabad: Tension gripped the GHMC head office at Tank Bund as supporters and senior leaders of BRS, Congress and BJP held protests and submitted representations against the delimitation of the notified 300 GHMC wards.
They met GHMC commissioner RV Karnan to voice their dissatisfaction over the merger of municipalities and the drawing of new boundaries, alleging a lack of transparency and calling for a review by the government.
A delegation from the Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi led by Sanathnagar MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav, MLCs Dasoju Sravan and Surabhi Vani Devi, MLAs Mallareddy, Mutha Gopal, Kaleru Venkatesh and Marri Rajasekhar Reddy, along with corporators, met the commissioner on Monday. They questioned the necessity of merging municipalities and corporations within the ORR into the GHMC and doubling the number of divisions from 150 to 300 in a hasty manner. “The new divisions were created from offices without consulting political parties, public representatives or understanding public opinion.”
Senior leaders and supporters of the BJP thronged the GHMC head office and held protests for an hour. BJP leaders from Turkayamjal municipality demanded that the delimitation done by the Congress government was “totally unscientific”.
All-party representatives from Domalguda protested and raised slogans against the Congress government, demanding a separate Domalguda division.
The area is currently under the Kawadiguda GHMC ward, despite Domalguda’s historical prominence with Indira Park, NTR Stadium, Musheerabad Circle Office, the erstwhile MCH office built in 1936, Domalguda Police Station and other government offices.
The TSRTC Colony Residents Welfare Association of Alwal GHMC circle and Badangpet also submitted their representations.
