Hyderabad: The schedule has been released for biennial election to the Telangana Legislative Council from nine Local Authorities’ Constituencies for 12 seats due to retirement of the sitting members on January 4 next year. The polling will be conducted for these seats on December 10 from 8 am to 4 pm, followed by counting of votes and announcement of results on December 14.

Accordingly, the notifications for the 12 seats of nine Local Authorities’ Constituencies will be issued on November 16 and the candidates can submit their nominations commencing from the same date. The last date for submission of nominations is November 23. While the scrutiny of nominations will be on November 24, the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is November 26. The entire election process will be completed before December 16.

All the sitting MLAs whose seats will fall vacant, belong to the ruling TRS. They are Puranam Satish Kumar from Adilabad, Pochampally Srinivas Reddy from Warangal, Tera Chinnapa Reddy from Nalgonda, V Bhoopal Reddy from Medak, K Kavitha from Nizamabad, Balasani Laxminarayana from Khammam, T Bhanuprasad Rao and Naradasu Laxman Rao from Karimnagar, Kasireddy Narayan Reddy and Kuchukulla Damoder Reddy from Mahabubnagar, Patnam Mahender Reddy and Sunkari Raju from Ranga Reddy.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) had declared that the Model Code of Conduct concerning the said election will come into force with immediate effect in the concerned constituency. The elections will be held in compliance with the Covid-19 guidelines.

Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer Shashank Goyal stated that the guidelines issued for the Huzurabad bye-elections, will be applicable for the MLC elections as well and accordingly, no public meeting will be allowed in the State. Under these circumstances, TRS is likely to postpone its Telangana Vijaya Garjana meeting scheduled to be held in Warangal on November 29, marking the two decades of its formation.
