Polytechnic students demand immediate withdrawal of GO 97

Students of Government Polytechnic, Patancheru, protested against GO Ms No. 97, opposing the proposed integration of government polytechnics with Young India Skills University. They demanded protection of the existing academic system, SBTET framework and educational and career opportunities for diploma students.

Hyderabad: Government Polytechnic, Patancheru students staged a protest against GO Ms No 97, which integrates government polytechnics with the Young India Skills University (YISU) that has been established under a public-private partnership.

Students raised slogans demanding the immediate withdrawal of GO 97 and protection of the existing identity and academic system of Government Polytechnics in the State. They said proposed changes could adversely affect the existing polytechnic education system, diploma students and their future educational opportunities.

Protesters urged the State government to consider their concerns and safeguard the future of lakhs of diploma students. Students emphasised the importance of protecting the existing polytechnic education system, SBTET framework and opportunities for diploma holders. They demanded the government hold discussions with students, teachers and other stakeholders before implementing any major changes affecting technical education.

Students demanded the government immediately withdraw GO Ms No 97, protect the existing government polytechnic education system, and not merge or integrate government polytechnics with YISU in a way that adversely affects students. They also demanded the government protect the academic and career opportunities of diploma students.

Meanwhile, protests by students continued at Government Polytechnic for Women Siddipet and Government Polytechnic Ramanthapur as well.
