Karimnagar: ‘Ooko Kaka’ is a popular slang in Telangana dialect effectively used to silence someone who talks too much or out of turn. This colloquial phrase has been put to good use as a brand name for a men’s fashion line, the first garments brand in Telangana State at that!

The ‘Ooko Kaka’ brand is the brainchild of Big Boss-3 winner Rahul Sipligunj, who was keen on selecting a commonly used and popular Telangana phrase to attract the local population. “Ye Ooko Kaka, Masthu Cheppinav is a common phrase one comes across often in the State and this should go down well with the people of the State,” Rahul said, adding that he will put in all his effort to develop it as a brand to reckon with.

The brand’s first showroom was inaugurated in Karimnagar on Saturday and is expected to storm Hyderabad with five more showrooms soon with plans for another 75 showrooms across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on the anvil. The management’s plan is to have at least one showroom in every district headquarters, but more stores would be opened in towns that have potential.

Inaugurating the first showroom, Rahul said he decided to start his business from Karimnagar since he had a soft corner for the district. “This affection stems from the fact that the people of Karimnagar always supported the statehood movement launched by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao,” he said.

The ‘Ooko Kaka’ brand has a variety of shirts, T-shirts, jeans and shorts, and is targeted at middle and upper middle class people, given the reasonable pricing of the garments without compromising on the quality.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Naresh, Karimnagar showroom franchisee, said the response from the public had been huge. “Since the brand name is different and completely local, people are curious and are visiting the

showroom to purchase clothes that are reasonably priced without losing focus on quality when compared to other popular brands,” he said.
