Hyderabad: Former Ranji middle-order batsman Vanka Pratap is the new director of Hyderabad Cricket Academy of Excellence (HCAE). The post has been vacant since July 2017. Pratap will succeed former Test all-rounder MV Narasimha Rao.
Pratap is a close confidante of HCA president Mohammed Azharuddin and he becoming the director was doing the rounds of late. The formal appointment letter was handed to Pratap by Azharuddin.
Pratap said he will assume charge from Thursday. “I got the appointment letter today (Wednesday) and I will be taking charge from Thursday,’’ he said.
The 47-year-old said it will be his earnest efforts to start the academy as early as possible. “We are hoping to start the academy in two weeks’ time. Azharuddin and the two players’ representatives in the Apex Council will shortly appoint coaches for the academy,’’ he said.
Captain’s meeting on Thursday
Meanwhile, according to a press note issued by the HCA on Wednesday, Azharuddin has convened a captain’s and club secretaries’ meeting of all the three-day league participating teams at 4 pm at Uppal Stadium on Thursday in view of the upcoming T20 tournament.
