Hyderabad: BRS general secretary RS Praveen Kumar accused the Revanth Reddy government in Telangana of attempting to shield BJP leaders in a POCSO case involving a minor girl. He also raised concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the State.

Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, Praveen Kumar said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was making false claims regarding the case and trying to protect Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar and his son Bandi Bageerath. He said Bageerath was sent to jail only after the BRS took up the issue.

Charging Bandi Sanjay and another BJP leader Sangappa with threatening the minor girl and her mother, the BRS leader demanded that criminal cases be registered against them under relevant legal provisions. “At the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is making all efforts to protect Bandi Sanjay and also weaken the case. Why are some Congress MPs coming out in support of their political opponent rather than the victim?” he asked.

He dismissed the Chief Minister’s claims of apprehending Bageerath during a police operation, pointing out that the accused had surrendered before the police in the presence of lawyers.

Praveen Kumar also accused BJP leaders and the party’s social media network of revealing the identity of the victim and circulating her photographs online. He alleged that the police had failed to secure justice for the minor girl and demanded action against all those who posted material related to the victim on social media.

He asserted that the BRS did not disclose the victim’s identity at any stage and instead fought for her. He also questioned the silence of BJP State president N Ramchander Rao, MPs D Arvind, M Raghunandan Rao and other BJP leaders on the issue.

Responding to remarks made by the Chief Minister against him, Praveen Kumar said he took voluntary retirement as an IPS officer to fight against leaders like Revanth Reddy and had no plans to return to government service. He ridiculed Revanth Reddy for questioning BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao for not responding to the POCSO case and stated that the Chief Minister was struggling to defend himself against BRS leaders like him and might lose his mind if Chandrashekhar Rao came out to speak on the issue. He asserted that all BRS leaders were working as per their party chief’s directions.
