Hyderabad: BRS general secretary RS Praveen Kumar stated that the Congress government’s decision to hand over the Kaleshwaram project matter to the CBI was part of a larger conspiracy that could harm Telangana for the next 100 years. He said that by misusing the damage caused to the Medigadda barrage pillars, the Congress, in collusion with the BJP and TDP, was planning to permanently destroy the Kaleshwaram project.

Speaking at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, Praveen Kumar said the damage to the Medigadda barrage pillars was used by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay to spread false propaganda against the project. He accused Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of influencing the probe and stated that the PC Ghose Commission merely echoed Revanth Reddy’s script.

Explaining how the issue unfolded, he said that officials were threatened against speaking in favour of the project and pointed out that vigilance reports recommended criminal cases against 18 engineers to intimidate those not following the ruling party’s narrative. “If Revanth Reddy is sincere, why did the Commission not question the Mahadevpur Station House Officer where a case was registered on the damage to the Medigadda barrage? Why was no SIT constituted on the complaints filed there?” he asked, referring to the FIR filed by Irrigation Department officials about the explosive sound when the barrage pillars were damaged.

He alleged that Revanth Reddy was looting Telangana’s wealth to benefit Andhra Pradesh under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chandrababu Naidu. “The CBI probe order on the Kaleshwaram project is not merely an attempt to target the BRS and its chief K Chandrashekhar Rao, but a larger conspiracy to destroy Telangana and deprive it of rights over Godavari River waters by turning the Kaleshwaram project unviable and enabling Andhra Pradesh to divert Godavari water,” he added.
