Jayashankar Bhupalpally: District Collector Bhavesh Mishra has asked all the departments concerned to prepare plans for the smooth conduct of the Pranahita Pushkaralu that is to be held for 12 days from April 13 in the district.
The Collector convened a meeting to review the arrangements here on Friday. He said the number of the devotees visiting Kaleshwaram confluence point during the Pranahita Pushkaralu was likely to cross the 12-lakh figure this time. During the last Pushkaralu held in 2010, an estimated number of 12 lakh people attended the event. “While five lakh devotees attended the Pranahita Pushkaralu festivities and took holy baths at the Kaleshwaram in 1999, 12 lakh visited in 2010,” the Collector said asking the officials to make plans for arrangements accordingly.
As more than ten lakh devotees are expected this year, the Collector ordered the officials to repair the road from Mahadevpur to Kaleshwaram, identify parking lots and widen the main bathing ghat road and VIP ghat road. The officials were directed to take sanitation measures during the festivities, drinking water and toilet facilities besides showers for the sake of devotees. The Collector also asked them for setting up special rooms for women for changing their clothes at bathing ghats.
Referring to the works on the development of the Kaleshwaram temple started four years ago at a cost of Rs 25 crore sanctioned by the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Bhavesh Mishra said the pace of works was a bit slow and asked officials to complete the works by calling short-tender notices.
The devotees believe that a river named Saraswathi flows under Godavari and Pranhita rivers at Kaleshwaram, therefore calling the confluence point ‘Triveni Sangamam’. Kaleshwaram is the center for Pushkaralu, which is organised once every 12 years. Saraswathi Pushkaralu took place in 2013 summer and Godavari Pushkaralu took place in 2015.
Joint Collector Kurakula Swarnalatha, Temple EO Maruti, local public representatives and other officials attended the meeting. Earlier, the Collector also inspected the main bathing ghat and VIP ghats. RDO Srinivas, Kataram DSP Bonala Kishan, ZP CEO Shobharani, DPO Ashalata, DM&HO Dr Sriram, R&B EE Venkatesh, RWS EE Nirmala, Panchayat Raj EE Venkateshwarlu, District Transport Officer (DTO) Venu, DPRO Ravi Kumar, SC Corporation ED Venkateshwarlu, Thasildar Srinivas, MPDO Shankar, NPDCL, TSRTC, Fisheries, Irrigation, National Highway and other officials were present.
