Hyderabad: Minister for Scheduled Castes Development, Minority Welfare and Senior Citizen Welfare Koppula Eshwar on Monday asked officials concerned to prepare proposals for giving pre-matric scholarships and transport charges along with expenses for reader allowance to be given to assistants of visually-impaired persons.
At a review meeting, the Minister also asked the officials to prepare proposals to improve maintenance of residential buildings meant for the physically-challenged. The State government was giving pensions to as many as five lakh physically-challenged people spending Rs 1,800 crore every year, he said.
Recently, aids and appliances worth Rs 21 crore were distributed to 14,000 people and the same was given immediately to those who applied. Smartphones, tricycles and wheelchairs were also distributed apart from providing two per cent reservations in jobs.
