Price hike of popular MG Windsor EV variants puts customers in quandary

Hyderabad: In a surprise move, Morris Garage (MG) has hiked the prices of the three variants of the MG Windsor Electric Vehice, raising quite a few eye brows. The increased prices have been communicated to the customers who have booked the EVs, following an advertisement blitzkrieg that put the three variants of the Windsor on top of the list of the EVs sold in India.

The hike in ex-showroom price is Rs 50,000 for each of the three variants – Excite, Exclusive and Essence. Consequently, the TCS of 1 per cent algo got increased in addition to the hike in insurance amounts too.

The sudden price hike has caught the car enthusiasts by surprise, as they were literally expecting the prices to drop considering the serious competition that is building up for the MG Windsor with the rivals unveiling latest variants in their production line, with more features and extra battery capacities.

Moreso, those who booked the MG Windsor in Telangana were hopeful of further drop in the prices after the Telangana government announced the new EV policy in which exemption from the registration fee and life time tax were waived completely for the next two years.

“Whatever benefit that is sought to be accrued to the consumer is now knocked off by the company to a large extent. This is completely a shock to me” fumed an MG customer who booked the vehicle and is eagerly waiting for the delivery.  He did not wish to be identified.

Windsor EV Excite 4002ECU – Rs. 13,99,800 (13,49,800),

Windsor EV Exclusive 4003ECU – Rs 14,99,800 (14,49,800)

Windsor EV Essence 4005ECU – Rs 15,99,800 (15,49,800)
