Hyderabad: Priyamani is thrilled about her Telugu OTT debut ‘Bhamakalapam’. And why shouldn’t she be? The actor has been cast for the first time in a thriller dark comedy and is essaying the role of Anupama, an overcurious homemaker who runs a popular YouTube channel called ‘Anupama Ghumaghuma’.
Ahead of its release on February 11 on aha, Priyamani caught up with ‘Telangana Today’. “‘Bhamakalapam’ is a bilingual project and will release simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil for all my fans. I am really positive that people will enjoy this film,” she said.
Priyamani received accolades from across the country for her role as Suchi (Suchitra Tiwari) in ‘The Family Man’ series. Although the actor also received some hate too because her character Suchi cheats on her husband Srikant Tiwari, portrayed by Manoj Bajpayee in the second season of the Amazon Prime Video show. The actor feels such reactions only mean that she has done justice to her character. “After ‘The Family Man’ and ‘Bhamakalapam’, I am open to doing any other interesting OTT projects that come my way,” she shared.
“I’m portraying the role of a middle-class housewife who has her own YouTube channel through which she showcases her recipes to the world. Although there’s a twist – my character Anupama is somewhat a peeping Tom and sneaks into matters of other households. And because she is so nosy, she gets entangled in a cold-blooded murder in the apartment. The more she tries to come out of the situation, the more she gets pulled into it. A lot of other people in her life also get caught in this web,” shared Priyamani about her role, adding that she feels ‘Bhamakalapam’ is a perfect opportunity for her digital debut.
Actors such as John Vijay, Sharanya Pradeep, Pammi Sai, and Shanti Rao essay crucial roles in ‘Bhamakalapam’, which is being directed by Abhimanyu Tadimeti and produced by Sudheer Edara and Bogavalli Bapineedu under SVCC Digital. “As the film was shot amid the Covid-19 wave, we made sure the entire crew was masked up and used sanitisers. When we shot indoors, we made it a point that the place wasn’t crowded,” shared Priyamani about her shooting experience.
“My maximum scenes in ‘Bhamakalapam’ are with Sharanya, who plays the role of my house help Shilpa. She is my partner-in-crime and confidant in the film. Shilpa works in many other houses in the neighbourhood and gets Anupama most of the gossip. John Vijay plays the villain in the film. There are many other interesting characters in the film and only when you watch it, the suspense will unfold,” added Priyamani.
So, does Priyamani enjoy cooking like her character Anupama? She says, “No! My husband Mustafa Raj cooks and I enjoy eating the dishes he makes. In whatever free time I get, I love spending it with my husband and mother-in-law. I am also a huge fan of Korean dramas.”
Apart from that, Priyamani has an interesting pallet of films like ‘Virata Parvam’ with Rana Daggubati and Sai Pallavi and ‘Maidaan’ with Ajay Devgn. Right now, she’s shooting for a Pan-India film called ‘Quotation Gang’ which also has Sunny Leone as part of the cast.
