Hyderabad: BRS leader Dasoju Sravan dubbed Chief Minister Revanth Reddy‘s orders to probe into handcuffing of tribal farmer Heerya Naik as mere deception, to obscure the latter’s draconian approach towards tribal farmers. He said the government’s action reveals a systematic effort to suppress dissent, violate human rights, and deny justice to marginalised communities.
In a statement, Sravan demanded for immediate action to ensure medical attention including specialised treatment at NIMS for Heerya Naik and other detained farmers. He also sought the government to expedite the bail petitions of the detained farmers and adhere to constitutional mandates and Supreme Court directives by prohibiting misuse of handcuffs and ensuring humane treatment of detainees.
He also urged the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to take cognisance of these grave violations and issue notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police. He demanded an impartial inquiry and a detailed report on the unlawful actions of the state police and the treatment of detained farmers.
