Probe launched after five-year-old drowns in Indiramma housing trench in Nirmal
A five-year-old girl tragically drowned in a trench dug for an Indiramma housing project in Pembi mandal, Nirmal. Locals blamed Anganwadi teacher Nagamani for negligence. Disciplinary action may follow based on the findings, with a report to be submitted to senior officials.
Nirmal: Authorities have launched an inquiry into the death of a five-year-old girl who drowned after falling into a trench dug for constructing an Indiramma house at Pembi mandal centre on Saturday.
Police said the child, identified as Athram Pushpa, daughter of Renuka and Ramu, slipped into the water-filled pit while playing near her house. Locals rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival. The girl’s parents and villagers alleged that the mishap occurred due to the negligence of local Anganwadi teacher Nagamani.
Officials from the Women and Child Development Department visited the area on Sunday and collected statements from residents to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Department authorities said disciplinary action would be initiated against the teacher if the probe finds negligence on her part. A detailed report will be submitted to higher officials in due course.
