Hyderabad: State BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Wednesday took exception to the alleged warning issued by Siddipet District Collector P Venkatrami Reddy to officials and seed sellers that they would be suspended, and shops closed even if one kg of paddy seeds was sold in the district.

“We will proceed legally against such officers,” he said, addressing a press conference in Huzurabad. He sought to know how the Collector gave warning to officials and seed sellers. “Who is he to make such remarks?” Sanjay asked.

He alleged that an attempt was being made to threaten farmers through Collectors and agriculture officers. “We will fight it and if necessary, our party leaders and I are ready to go to jail,” he said.

The Centre has already entered into an agreement with the State on purchasing paddy through Food Corporation of India (FCI) ensuring minimum support price, he said, adding: “Did the Centre say that it won’t purchase paddy? We will also extend necessary assistance to purchase additional paddy.” Sanjay said the party was serious about the paddy issue and it would fight after completion of elections in Huzurabad.

“There is no need for farmers to panic. It is our responsibility to ensure that the paddy is purchased,” he assured.
