Protect human rights and environment: TSHRC chairman

Adilabad: Telangana State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) chairman Justice Gunda Chandraiah said that everyone must strive hard for protecting the rights of humans, besides the environment.

He convened a review meeting with authorities of RIMS-Adilabad and the district jail here on Saturday as part of his two-day tour. He was accompanied by G Anand Rao, member of the commission. He inquired about medical services being extended by RIMS to patients.


Speaking on the occasion, Chandraiah stated everybody should try to protect human rights guaranteed by the Constitution and environment which was crucial for the very existence of mankind. He suggested the officials not to forget their primary duties in providing medical services to patients even as they were facing certain challenges. He said that the patients were entitled to get quality food and healthcare facilities. He said that 40 percent of the total petitions received by the Commission were addressed by Collectors.

Earlier, the SHRC chairman along with Collector Sikta Patnaik planted saplings on the premises of the medical institution. Sikta assured to ensure human rights were not violated. She stated that the district administration would enthusiastically discharge duties with insights of the chairman.

Additional Collector Natarajan, M David, RIMS Director Dr Karunakar, District Medical and Health and Medical Officer Dr Narender Rathod, Adilabad RDO Rajeshwar and municipal commissioner Shailaja and many other officials were present.
