‘Protection of tanks everyone’s responsibility’
Suryapet: Suryapet Municipal Chairperson Perumalla Annapurna Srinivas on Sunday said that protection of irrigation tanks was everyone’s responsibility.
Suryapet Municipality, in association with Vishwa Sustainable Foundation, took up cleaning of wastes including plastic bottles and covers from Saddala Cheruvu in the town as part of Swachh Survekshan on Sunday.
Launching the programme, the municipal chairperson said that cleaning of Saddala Cheruvu was taken up in the town under the slogan “Protect Irrigation Tanks for better environment”. She said that cleaning of irrigation tanks would help in the protection of the environment. Hence, everyone should consider the protection of irrigation tanks as their social responsibility. People should not throw the wares particularly plastic bottles and covers into the irrigation tanks, which would contaminate the water.
She also exhorted the people of the town to use the services of the door-to-door waste collection tractors and not to throw the household waste in open lands and roadside places, which would create an unhygienic atmosphere in the town.
