Protests, clashes break out at gram sabhas in erstwhile Khammam

Khammam: Gram sabhas held at different parts in Khammam and Kothagudem districts on Thursday witnessed serious protests by the public whose names were omitted from the beneficiaries list.
BRS and Congress workers clashed at VM Banjar of Penuballi mandal in Khammam district over the selection of 11 persons for sanctioning Indiramma Athmeeya Bharosa even though they were not eligible for the scheme. The officials and police had to intervene to bring order at the meeting.
In another incident at Usirikayalapalli of Singareni mandal, the applicants who submitted applications for Indiramma houses during a comprehensive survey staged a dharna. They alleged that even though they were eligible for getting the houses, their names were not on the list.
Similarly, the locals entered into heated arguments with officials and Congress leaders, as well as at Ramanjaneya Colony in Chunchupally mandal of Kothagudem district.
They objected to the Congress leaders acting as officials and answering the public, who wanted to know why their names were included in the beneficiaries list.
CPM leaders protested at Sujatha Nagar gram sabha alleging irregularities in the selection of Indiramma Houses and Indiramma Athmeeya Bharosa beneficiaries.
The party leaders also staged a protest at Singabhupalem gram sabha irregularities in the selection of beneficiaries.
Residents of Basavataraka Colony in Paloncha mandal complained to the District Collector over irregularities in the selection of Indiramma houses beneficiaries.
They entered into arguments with officials who visited the colony for a survey asking why genuine beneficiaries were not being selected.
