Protests galore in Khammam against Congress government’s failures
Political parties and people’s organisations staged protests at the Khammam district collectorate on Monday, accusing the Congress government of failing to deliver on promises. Demonstrators highlighted unfulfilled guarantees, excessive workload on ANMs, and delays in welfare schemes, demanding immediate action
Khammam: Protests rocked Khammam District Collectorate on Monday as political parties and people’s organisations staged demonstrations against the State government’s failures to address public issues.
Pensioners’ and Disabled Persons’ Rights Struggle Committee, CPI Rythu Sangham and Telangana State Second ANMs Association (AITUC) took out protest rallies to the Collectorate. Meanwhile, the BJP staged a protest at ZP centre in Khammam.
Former MLA Shanampudi Saidi Reddy, who took part in the BJP protest, alleged that Congress which came to power with the slogan ‘Marpu kavali, Congress ravali’ had betrayed the people. The government changed but there was no change in the lives of the people, he said.
None of the six guarantees mentioned in the pamphlets distributed with the signature of Sonia Gandhi and the sixty-six additional promises made were implemented. The government had not even taken notice of the food poisoning incidents taking the lives of students in Gurukuls and hostels. All the promises made for the unemployed were not implemented, he said.
The ANMs’ association State honorary president Thota Ramanjaneyulu accused the government of putting an additional burden of work on ANMs and risking their lives. ANMs should be excluded from the online NCD programme. They were forced to spend about 16 hours to upload 32 types of mobile applications. ANMs were suffering from diseases due to severe work pressure, he said.
Pensioners’ and Disabled Persons’ Rights Struggle Committee demanded the Congress government to deliver the promises given to the disabled and the elderly personers as well as single women before the elections.
Rythu Sangham leader Bhagam Hemantha Rao demanded the government implement the election promises made to the people immediately and withdraw the amendments brought in the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Scheme.
He said that even after 20 months of coming to power, the government had failed to implement its promises. Rs 2,500 assistance to women under the Mahalaxmi scheme, Rs 12,000 under Indiramma Asara to agricultural workers and others were yet to be implemented.
