Karimnagar: Taking the bull by the horn, Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Tuesday declared that he would resign from the State Cabinet if he fails to prove that the State government is not collecting Rs 291 per domestic LPG gas cylinder in the form of tax as alleged by BJP candidate for Huzurabad by-election Eatala Rajender. “Similarly, Rajender should withdraw from the electoral fray if it is proved that the State government has no share in the tax imposed by the Union government,” he said.
“Will resign if I fail”
“I will resign from the Minister’s post if I fail to prove my point. Are you ready to pull out of the by-poll if it is proved that the State government is not collecting Rs 291 tax from LPG customers? I am ready to discuss the issue either at Jammikunta Gandhi Chowk or Huzurabad Ambedkar Chowk. I am ready to come to any of these two places either today or tomorrow,” the Minister said, speaking at an election campaign at Penchikalpet of Elkathurthy mandal.
Coming down heavily on Rajender for giving Rs 300 to people and asking them not to attend the TRS meetings, the Minister wondered: “What kind of culture is this?” Instead of promising to take up developmental works if he is elected in the by-poll, the BJP leader is indulging in such unethical activities, he said, adding, no one can prevent people from exercising their votes for the TRS party candidate, not even the Rs 300 given by Rajender.
Stating that Rajender had completely neglected the welfare of the people when he was a Minister, Harish Rao said if he was committed to the welfare of his electorate, the BJP candidate would have constructed 4,000 double bedroom houses sanctioned by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
“Rajender joined the BJP which has hiked the price of cooking gas to Rs 1,000. But, he wants people to vote for the saffron party that was imposing a huge burden on the common public by increasing prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas. Rajender is cheating the public through his statements and trying to get votes by spreading false propaganda,” he said, adding that the TRS government led by Chandrashekhar Rao will be in power for the next two years, and development was possible only with the TRS party in governance in the State.
Harish Rao promised to construct double bedroom houses in Huzurabad within two years if TRS candidate Gellu Srinivas Yadav gets elected in the October 30 by-poll.
