Zilla Parishad Chairman, Lingala Kamalraj, ZP CEO, Ch Priyanka, district principal judge Ch K Bhupathi, SUDA Chairman, Bachu Vijay Kumar, Mayor, P Neeraja have planted saplings marking World Environment Day here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamalraj and others said the government has taken up the prestigious Haritha Haram programme with an objective of spreading greenery in the State. And the results of the programme were becoming visible slowly.
Telangana had thick forests in the past but due to the negligence of the previous governments the forest cover was reduced to below 33 percent. With the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s foresight the green cover was again increasing in the State, he noted.
ZP CEO and SUDA Chairman said the future belongs to the younger generations and have called upon the youth to come forward and actively take part in environmental protection by planting saplings on a large scale.
Judge Bhupathi noted that the Covid pandemic has underlined the importance of planting saplings and spreading green cover. He urged the District Legal Services Authority paralegal volunteers to plant saplings and protect them.
