Hyderabad: Emphasising that businesses of the future will be defined by their social impact and purpose, entrepreneur and Founder of Bollant Industries, Srikanth Bolla, said social enterprises are poised to outgrow purely commercial ventures in the coming decade.
Bolla, who was recently conferred the inaugural Santokbaa Social Entrepreneur Award instituted by the Shree Ramkrishna Knowledge Foundation (SRKKF), said the recognition holds special significance as it celebrates the spirit of social entrepreneurship and acknowledges the countless changemakers working towards building a better society.
Founded by Bolla with the vision of empowering people at the margins of society while transforming waste into sustainable products, Bollant Industries has emerged as a leading example of how business profitability and social purpose can coexist.
Reflecting on the honour, Bolla said awards are not destinations but reminders of one’s larger mission and purpose.
“Every award and recognition is a byproduct of a larger mission. They remind me of how far I have come and how much further I have to go. This award is not just for me, but for the world of social entrepreneurship and for the many unsung heroes who are creating change in their own ways,” he said.
Calling entrepreneurship a “spiritual journey”, Bolla said entrepreneurs often choose a path filled with uncertainty and sacrifices, driven by the desire to create a lasting impact rather than merely generate wealth.
Speaking about Bollant Industries, Bolla said the company was founded with a simple mission to create beautiful products that people would be proud to use while empowering individuals and communities often excluded from mainstream economic opportunities.
Built on the pillars of human impact, sustainability and commercial viability, the company has demonstrated that eco-friendly products can be both affordable and globally competitive. According to Bolla, sustainability should not be viewed as a premium choice, but as a way of life.
At the core of his philosophy lies the belief in “capability over disability”. Born visually impaired, Bolla said every challenge, discrimination and setback he encountered became an opportunity to create change not just for himself but for generations to come.
“Blindness is for the body, but vision is for the mind. A person who is blind can conquer the world, but a person who is blind in vision cannot achieve much. Vision has no boundaries,” he said.
Over the years, Bolla has consistently advocated for equal opportunities for persons with disabilities and believes that India has made significant progress in changing societal perceptions, though much more remains to be done.
He noted that changing perceptions has been one of his biggest missions and expressed satisfaction that his biopic Srikanth presented a visually impaired individual as a hero, helping redefine how disability is portrayed and perceived.
Looking ahead, Bolla believes the rise of technology, artificial intelligence and innovation will further accelerate the growth of purpose-driven enterprises.
“Without a social goal, nothing meaningful can be achieved. We are often so occupied with making money that we overlook the impact we create. In the next five to ten years, I believe social enterprises will overpower purely commercial enterprises because everything we do ultimately has a social purpose,” he said.
Bolla added that his larger vision remains creating a world where sustainability, inclusion and entrepreneurship work together to build a fairer and more equitable society, while inspiring more people to become changemakers in their own communities.
