Hyderabad: Pushpa: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun, is a power-packed entertainer that delivers on fan expectations with emotional highs, gripping action, and chart-topping music.
Directed by Sukumar, the film serves as a sequel to Pushpa: The Rise and continues to explore Pushpa’s journey as he solidifies his position as the ruler of the red sandalwood syndicate.
The Plot
The story begins with a powerful entry for Pushpa( Allu Arjun), who is now the undisputed leader of the sandalwood syndicate. The first half focuses on his growing power, the expansion of his illegal business, and a major international deal with a Dubai-based businessman.
While the purpose of this deal creates curiosity, Pushpa faces opposition from within the syndicate and his old rival, Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat (Fahadh Faasil).
The first half is packed with intense moments, powerful elevations, and impressive background music, though there are a few minor pacing issues.
The second half sees Pushpa confronting Shekhawat’s challenge head-on and emerging victorious. However, new problems arise, testing his resilience once again.
Songs like “Sooseki” and “kissik” elevate the emotional and visual appeal of the film, accompanied by top-notch background scores.
Despite the highs, the second half suffers from significant lags, and the story feels stretched, with a runtime of 3 hours and 15 minutes testing the audience’s patience.
Performances:
Allu Arjun delivers a stellar performance, proving yet again why he is the heart and soul of the franchise. His intense acting, impeccable dance moves and his screen presence are the film’s biggest strengths. The chemistry between Pushpa Raj and Srivalli ( Rashmika) is mesmerizing, making it a visual treat to watch on screen.
Rashmika Mandanna shines in her limited role, impressing with her flawless Rayalaseema slang and emotional depth. Sree Leela sets the stage ablaze with her energetic and flexible dance moves in the “kissik” song.
Fahadh Faasil is brilliant as Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, bringing depth and intensity to the antagonist’s role. His portrayal is so convincing that people will remember him as Shekhawat for a while.
Supporting actors like Anasuya, Sunil, Rao Ramesh, Jagapathi Babu, Ajay, Jagadeesh Prathap and others delivered solid performances, making the most of their screen time.
Technical Aspects:
The film’s music and background score by Devi Sri Prasad are major highlights, elevating key moments and keeping the energy alive. The cinematography by Miroslaw Kuba and Brozek captures the rustic backdrop and action sequences beautifully. However, the film’s editing by Naveen Nooli could have been sharper, especially in the second half, where the story tends to drag.
Verdict
Pushpa: The Rule is an emotional roller coaster and a visual treat for fans, with standout performances, memorable music, and breathtaking action sequences. While the lengthy runtime and slow pacing in the second half might be a drawback, the film compensates with its high entertainment value.
The makers have announced a third installment, Pushpa: The Rampage, teasing a mystery antagonist. Despite its flaws, Pushpa: The Rule is a good-watch for fans of Allu Arjun and those who enjoy mass entertainers.
