Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking to halt the release of the upcoming Telugu film ‘Pushpa-2, scheduled for December 5.

Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya, while dismissing the petition filed by Sararapu Srisailam of Secunderabad, also imposed an unspecified cost on the petitioner for wasting the time of the court, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), and the filmmakers. The costs will be directed to organizations working for the welfare of trafficked women and children. The petitioner had argued that Pushpa-2 would promote illegal activities, similar to its predecessor, which depicted red sanders wood smuggling.

However, Justice Bhattacharya dismissed the claims as mere assumptions, noting that the petitioner had no concrete evidence beyond the movie’s teaser to support his case. Deputy Solicitor General Gadi Praveen Kumar, stressed that the movie had been properly reviewed and certified by the CBFC, which had made five modifications before granting approval. He further emphasized that Pushpa-2 had followed all regulations under the Cinematography Act, and the petitioner had no grounds to challenge the movie’s release.

In her ruling, Justice Bhattacharya noted that delaying the film’s release at the last minute would adversely affect the filmmakers and the industry. The movie is set for release as scheduled on December 5.
