Puvvada flags off Olympic Run in Khammam

Khammam: Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar flagged off the Olympic Run here on Wednesday marking International Olympic Day.
The three-km Olympic Run was organised by the District Olympic Association and Youth Affairs and Sports Department from Sardar Patel Stadium to Lakaram Tank Bund in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the day was chosen by the International Olympic Committee in 1948 to promote the idea of Olympics and highlight the importance of mass sports competitions across the world.
This year Olympic Day was a special one as it coincides with highly-anticipated Summer Olympics-2020 scheduled to be held from July 23 to August 8 in Tokyo, Japan, Ajay Kumar informed.
The TRS government was promoting sports in a big way in the State and was developing sports grounds and stadiums across the State. During the past seven years, there has been significant improvement in sports infrastructure in the State, he added.
SUDA Chairman, B Vijay Kumar, District Collector, RV Karnan, District Sports Officer M Paramdhama Reddy, secretary Anantha Ramulu, District Olympic Committee president Raghunandan Rao and others took part in the run.
