Quality technician turns chain snatcher, caught by Warangal police

Warangal police arrested a chain snatcher and recovered ornaments worth Rs 23.50 lakh
Warangal: KUC and CCS police arrested a chain snatcher who targeted women walking alone on deserted roads and recovered gold ornaments weighing 237 grams, worth about ₹23.50 lakh.
The accused, Manthurthi Harish of Damera in Elkathurthi mandal of Hanamkonda district, now living at Reddy Colony, Hanamkonda, is a graduate who earlier worked as a quality technician in a cement company in Hyderabad.
His first crime was a theft of a gold chain from his colleague’s house, which he pawned at a gold loan company. He was arrested in that case by Neredmet police and jailed earlier this year, Commissioner of Police Sunpreet Singh informed the media.
After being released on bail, Harish began committing chain snatchings to live a lavish life. He stole two-wheelers to carry out the offences and was involved in 10 chain snatching cases and three two-wheeler thefts under Warangal Commissionerate.
Police formed special teams under the supervision of DCP (Crimes) Gunasekhar, ACP (Crimes) Sadaiah, and Hanamkonda ACP Narsimha Rao in view of a series of chain snatching incidents.
Using technology, police traced the accused and intercepted him during vehicle checks at Yadav Nagar crossroads on Tuesday while he was riding a stolen two-wheeler. He tried to escape but was caught. The stolen property was recovered from his rented house, Singh said.
The CP appreciated the efforts of officials Gunasekhar, Sadaiah, Narsimha Rao, Inspectors Ravi Kumar and Raghavender, AAO Salman Pasha, SIs Raj Kumar and Shiva Kumar, HCs Anjaiah and Jampaiah, and PCs Madhukar, Chandrasekhar, and Nagesh in nabbing the accused and recovering the stolen property.
