Rachakonda police arrest 27 more persons in interstate child-kidnapping racket

Hyderabad: In continuation to the arrests made in the interstate child-kidnapping racket by the Rachakonda police in Chaitanyapuri, 27 more persons were arrested on Wednesday.

The arrested persons are S Amulya (29), an ex-ASHA worker from Malakpet, Vaishali Bheemrao Wasnik from Nagpur, J Karthik from Kothapet, Sajjan Agarwal from Ghansi Bazaar, B Mangaiah from Abdullapurmet, B Nagaraju from Asifabad, R Ashok from Neredmet, Shai Ismail from Mailardevpally and M Vamshi Krishna from Nizampet. All others are adopted parents of the children.


According to the police, as per the confession of Krishnaveni and Deepthi, who were earlier arrested, Amulya was actively involved in illegal procuring and selling infants. She procured and sold about 10 infants including 6 girls and five of them have now been rescued.

The infants were procured from Mumbai, Kanpur, Raipur, Amaravathi and Hyderabad and sold to couples in Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Guntur.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu said the gang procured each female infant for about Rs 2-3 lakh and sold for Rs 3-4 lakh. Likewise, each male infant was procured for Rs 4-5 lakh and sold for Rs 5-6 lakh.

Earlier, Amulya used to serve as ASHA worker and got into contact with one of the mediators – Ismail who used to work as supervisor at the Area Hospital, Malakpet. He lured her with promise of earning money easily and asked her to identify childless parents and depending of their need, sold the children.

“Amulya through Deepthi and through social media secured the contacts of child sellers from other states. A total of 8 infants were procured and sold by Amulya on her own and with Deepthi, she procured and sold 10 infants,” Sudheer Babu said.

Special teams were formed for rescue of infants who were procured and sold illegally.
