Hyderabad: In the last week, the Rachakonda Police booked 41,286 persons for various traffic violations and collected Rs 1.46 crore towards fine from them.

The traffic police booked cases for various violations including driving without a helmet, seatbelt, driving license, carrying extra passengers, projection, overspeeding, signal jumping, dangerous driving and using mobile phones while driving.

“Apart from enforcing safety rules, we are also organising awareness programmes among the road users on various aspects of road safety,” said a senior traffic official. The traffic police booked 144 cases against persons who were caught for driving in an inebriated condition. “All those caught will be produced before the court,” said the official.

During the last week, 12 persons died in road accidents while 51 persons escaped with injuries in Rachakonda. “After every accident, officials are visiting the spot to identify the reasons for the road mishap and initiate the steps to prevent it in coordination with other government agencies,” said the official.
