Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Police and the Rachakonda Security Council have launched psychosocial counselling services for people during the ongoing pandemic. Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat, launching the services here on Monday, emphasised that in times of adversity, emotional well-being and mental health were as important as physical health.
Unfortunately, mental health was not being taken seriously, he said, citing two recent instances where one person died by suicide due to fear of contracting Covid-19 while another youngster lost his mental balance after being in isolation for 14 days.
Having come across numerous instances where people are suffering from stress, depression, loneliness, fears, grief and anxiety because of the pandemic, we are launching psychosocial counselling services for people across the State,” Bhagwat said, adding that the service was made available during the lockdown last year and counselors had attended to more than 200 calls.
Asking the people not to suffer in silence, Bhagwat said there would be absolute confidentiality and anonymity with respect to details of callers and that they could freely express their problems. DCP (Malkajgiri) Rakshita Murthy also spoke on the occasion. The counselling service can be availed through 040- 48214800 from 9 am to 9 pm on Monday to Saturday.
