Hyderabad: The Rachakonda cybercrime police on Wednesday arrested a cyber-stalker on charges of harassing a woman by sending sexually explicit content on WhatsApp. The arrested person was identified as O Srinu (27), a labourer from Annojiguda in Ghatkesar and a native of Nagaram in Suryapet district.
According to the police, Srinu who discontinued his education with class six was addicted to watching porn content on his mobile phone. Subsequently, he developed a habit of contacting unknown women randomly and started stalking them by sending obscene pictures and messages on social media. He was earlier arrested by the Keesara police for a similar offence and jailed in 2019.
Officials said after being released from the jail in October this year, Srinu again tried to contact the victim from Ghatkesar and she avoided him.
“Angered by this, Srinu started sending vulgar messages and pictures to the victim on WhatsApp. Though, her family members warned him, he continued to harass the victim,” police said.
Unable to bear the harassment, the victim filed a complaint with the cybercrime police.
During the course of investigation, the police team collected the technical evidence and arrested Srinu from his house. A mobile phone which was used to commit the offence was seized.
Police warned citizens to not attend calls and respond to messages from unknown numbers. If they find obscene content, it should be immediately reported to the local police.
